Renewable energy is booming. Wind farms, hydropower plants, solar panels or sustainable farming, there are hundreds of thousands of unique jobs in this sector.

Energy is fundamental to development. It is critical for all future investments, innovations, industries that generate jobs and push economic growth. With the advent of new technologies in AI, Metaverse, Cryptocurrencies, Blockchain and NFTs, there is a dire need for alternative and renewable sources of energy as the fossil fuels are finite and are an environmental hazard when used for energy generation. Besides Climate Change caused mainly by greenhouse gas emissions is threatening the very existence of the world.

India’s economy is under huge pressure due to rising fuel prices, energy demand, and the climate change related problems. India has been on the forefront in adopting renewable energy. Projects like biomass, hydropower, geothermal, wind and solar energy generation are being developed in India.

It aims to substitute the use of coal, oil and wood for energy. We has already achieved its Nationally Determined Contributions target with total non-fossil based installed energy capacity of 157.32 gigawatts, which is 40.1 per cent of the total installed electricity capacity of 392.01 GW. There is a dire need for Government and businesses to invest heavily and provide green, clean and renewable energy.

Renewable energy is a booming sector. Wind farms, hydropower plants, solar panels or sustainable farming, there are hundreds of thousands of unique jobs in renewable energy. There are institutes with courses for the skill development training programme on renewable energy. The aim’s to develop skills of the participants to effectively use alternative sources.

Prospects

There is a demand for equipment manufacturing in this sector, due to which there is a rise in the requirement of skilled manpower. It is not only limited to the manufacturing sector but also in other areas like Installation, System Designing, Operations & Maintenance, Financing and Marketing. Biologists and ecologists are required for analyzing the effects of the wind farm on biodiversity. Architects to design buildings, fabricators, installation experts, skilled administrators, finance experts and managers are essential to successfully run the show.

Engineers

For engineers, endless renewable energy applications exist, making engineering a big job prospect in this sector. For instance, engineers design hydroelectric dams, solar panels and batteries, wind turbines, the systems that carry the electricity from the wind farm, dam or solar field to the power plant. They help in generating ethanol from corn, green fuel from biomass. They are also required in the field of equipment manufacturing to address the challenges of production, design and delivery in this sector. Engineering is not a quick-entry renewable-energy career, but it can be a long-lasting one.

Other Fields

Engineers and scientists used to dominate this sector. But now, graduates with commercial skills are welcome as well. There are job opportunities for physicists, geologists, ecologists, biologists, architectural and structural engineers, planners and project managers to computer operators, communications professionals, business developers and logistic professionals.

Besides academic qualifications, the skill set requirements vary as per the job. Basics are the same as in other jobs. Focus on the work assigned, dedicated effort to achieve goals, handling pressure on and off work situations, and so on. For a specialised job requirement, the skills are essential as per the particular work.
