Smiling Tree plants over 2000 saplings at Delhi’s Hansraj and Ramjas College

Students and teachers of Hansraj College and Ramjas College in Delhi along with Smiling Tree undertook a plantation drive and planted over 2,000 saplings in their campuses.

The green crusaders planted 1150 saplings and 60 baskets at Hansraj College, 150 plants at Ramjas College. They also planted 350 saplings at Leelawanti Saraswati Vidya Mandir School in Hari Nagar and about 350 saplings in other areas of Delhi-NCR.

An initiative by Smiling Tree, a decade old NGO committed to making the surroundings environment friendly and healing our mother Earth, they have thus far planted almost three lakhs saplings and carried out hundreds of Plantation Drives in and around Delhi-NCR.

Till date, Smiling Tree has planted thousands of grown up trees at University of Delhi, Hansraj College and Ramjas College. Trees were also planted in several other campuses including Modern School Barakhamba Road, British School at Chanakyapuri, Roshanara Club in Delhi, Mother Teresa’s Nirmal Hriday in Majnu Ka Tila and St Xavier’s School in Civil Lines. Additionally, plantation drives at Elders Home Society in Rohini, Hari Nagar Leelawanti Saraswati School, Arya Samaj Center, and many more, stand testimony to the selfless plantation drives carried out by the team of Smiling Tree.

Smiling Tree, a green initiative founded by environmentalist and author Mukesh Kwatra, organised this plantation drive to plant over 2,000 saplings in the University of Delhi, schools and other areas of Delhi-NCR.

Speaking about the initiative Kwatra said, “Tree planting is one of the simplest and most effective ways of tackling climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions.”

“We are happy to partner with Smiling Tree in its endeavours and work towards building a clean and green environment,” said Rama Sharma, Principal – Hansraj College.

It has been partnering with the government too for plantation drives in Namami Gange Programme, a national mission to clean river Ganga, with Karur Vysya Bank, Rotary Club, Platinum Motocorp of Maruti Suzuki, and many others to carry out Plantation Drives and or gift plants at various other venues in and around Delhi. They have also successfully motivated over a thousand people to adopt trees and care for them.

Smiling Tree are pioneers in recycling used plastic bottles and other waste materials into planters and Ecobricks. They also conduct anti-plastic drives to generate awareness and help people make concrete decisions against using plastics in their daily lives.
